Absolutely, simplicity is a strategic advantage because every layer of unnecessary complexity slows decisions, weakens accountability, and makes execution harder than it needs to be.

Dr. Ian, great article. I have personally witnessed all of the points you described. I worked for a larger aerospace company that had 12 layers of management within one function.

I have always loved the motto--KEEP IT SIMPLE.

I think 6/7 is a lot, but it depends on how big the organization is.
